'Festival of Books' Coming Back to Morris County in October

Second year of event features more authors, activities.

Thanks to an incredibly popular first attempt, the Morristown Festival of Books is coming back for year two, and will offer even more authors and events in 2015.

The organizing committee announced this week the festival will return to Morristown during the first weekend of October and have a similar format to last year’s event, which saw nearly 2,000 attendees.

The festival will begin on Friday, Oct. 2 with a keynote address at the Mayo Performing Arts Center, which is the only ticketed event of the festival. Saturday’s all-day event is free and open to the public, and will feature more than 25 authors who will speak at five different locations.

Those locations will be within walking distance of each other in downtown Morristown.

Book sales and author signings will be available on Saturday at Vail Mansion.

Last year’s event featured 21 authors.

An added twist will be highlighted in this year’s event, when the organizing committee announces the presentation of the One Community, One Book selection. The mission is to bring the community together in conversation by encouraging everyone in the Morristown area to read the same book and engage in dialogue, the committee said.

As a result, various activities will be planned based on that particular book, including discussion groups and a speaking engagement by the author.

The roster of authors has not yet been named but is expected to be announced this spring. Find out more about the Morristown Festival of Books here.
