Hail Pelts Jefferson as Strong Thunderstorms Sweep Area

Nearly an inch of dime-sized hail was recorded in Lake Hopatcong Thursday afternoon as severe thunderstorms ripped through the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a trained spotted recorded three-quarters of an inch of hail in the Lake Hopatcong area and social media reports indicated more than 2 inches of hail accumulated in the Oak Ridge section of Jefferson.

The storm also downed branches and power lines in the area.

More stormy weather is expected for the Fourth of July with heavy rain from Hurricane Arthur predicted for the area.
