High Water Puts Hold on Summer Water Sports on Lake Hopatcong
'No wake zone' declared for entire lake, reports say.

As rainy weather continues to hold a place in weather forecasts for much of the week, officials monitoring water levels at Lake Hopatcong have already called the water in the lake "high" for the season.
The water level, as of last week, was higher than has been seen in the past several years, according to AIM Jefferson. As a result, a "no wake zone" was declared on the entire lake, preventing water skiers and wake boarders from using the water for summer sporting, the newspaper reported.
The Lake Hopatcong Commission has also discussed the high level of lake water after a month of many storms in June. The commission heard from Steve Ellis, a representative of the Division of Parks and Forestry State Park Service, at their June meeting, who discussed with them whether sluice gates should be opened to alleviate the high water levels, according to Lake Hopatcong News.
More rain is on the horizon in the area, with a flash flood warning by the National Weather Service in effect through Tuesday and chance thunderstorms expected through Saturday.
