Jefferson Township Reports 2 More Coronavirus Deaths

According to Jefferson Township officials, the deaths occurred in two elderly men with pre-existing health conditions.

JEFFERSON, NJ — Jefferson Township confirmed its twelfth and thirteenth coronavirus-related deaths this week.

One decedent was a 77-year-old man, who suffered from a pre-existing chronic condition. The second decedent was a 74-year-old man, who also suffered from multiple pre-existing conditions, township officials said.

As of Tuesday, there have been 975 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 92 probable cases and 13
COVID-19-related deaths in Jefferson Township. Active cases are recovering and receiving treatment as necessary, officials said.

Township officials said negative test results have been reported for 2,502 residents.

Statewide, the New Jersey Department of Health reported 921 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 504,647. The NJDOH also reported 104 additional deaths, bringing the total to 17,464 as of Wednesday.

Gov. Phil Murphy also announced Wednesday that New Jersey will now make the COVID-19 vaccines available to police and firefighters, signaling that the program is moving on to the next phase of distribution.

More than 100,000 New Jersey residents have been vaccinated against the pandemic as the state looks to close a gap and expand vaccinations statewide.

  • Stay home as appropriate
  • Comply with social distancing measures
  • In public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, wear cloth face coverings
  • In settings where a retail business is permitted to maintain in-person operations, customers and workers are to wear cloth face coverings while on premises
  • Wash hands frequently
  • Cough/sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve instead of hands
  • Self-monitor for symptom
  • If you experience symptoms (most common symptoms are fever of 100.4°F, cough, shortness of breath, new loss of smell or taste), please call your healthcare provider for guidance
