JEFFERSON, NJ — A trucking company is behind the diesel fuel spill on Lake Hopatcong, the Daily Record reported.
Valiant Contracting reportedly told officials they had a diesel spill two weeks ago, and cleaned up the surrounding soil on the northern end of the lake. They will be responsible for clean-up costs, NJ Herald reported.
An oil sheen was reported to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection hotline over the weekend. It's not clear how much fuel was spilled, because even a small amount can cause a large sheen.
