Morris Jewish Community Looks To Blow Away Shofar Record

Blow a traditional Jewish trumpet, get into Guinness Book of Records

If all goes according to plan, Whippany will be very loud on Sunday, Sept. 21.

The Aidekman Jewish Community Campus there is planning to have The Great Shofar Blowout and hopes to break a Guinness World Record by having some 1,500 people all put the sounds together at the same time.

The shofar-blowing record was set in 2006 at Phillips Beach in Swampscott, Massachusetts, when 796 participants put together the largest Shofar ensemble on record.

About 500 people have already signed up for the Whippany event, and participants are asked to bring their own shofar. If a particpant does not have his or her own, shofars will be available for sale beforehand.

The Aidekman Jewish Community Campus is located at 901 Route 10 in Whippany.
