'Real Housewives' Eviction Trial Stalls, Mansion Was Never Listed as Rental

Court proceedings to reconvene Sept. 2, Joe Gorga given opportunity to obtain rental permit, report says.

After nearly two months of back and forth and being in and out of the courtroom, the eviction trial brought forth by Joe and Melissa Gorga, formerly of Montville and current cast members on the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” reality show, has been stalled yet again after a judge learned the mansion in question was never listed as a rental property.

The Gorgas are seeking to evict their tenant, Kai Patterson, who has paid a total of $95,000 since moving into the home in February. The Gorgas and their attorneys claim, under a lease-to-own agreement signed by Patterson last year, the tenant owes a total of $185,000.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Taylor put a quick end to Friday’s proceedings when Gorga and his attorney, Frank Catania, told the court a rental permit was never acquired, and an eviction for nonpayment of rent was out of his jurisdiction, according to nj.com.

The Gorgas are attempting to move back into the home so their children can register for the start of school, which begins in September.

Taylor is giving Gorga a second opportunity to obtain the permit and the trial will reconvene on Sept. 2, the report said.

The Montville mansion hit the market in 2013 when Melissa Gorga said she wanted to move further away from her sister-in-law, Teresa Giudice, another cast member of “Real Housewives of New Jersey.” Patterson signed a lease-to-own option for the $3.8 million home in August 2013.
