United States Fistball Association continues development of its Youth program

National Team grows both Men's and Women's Programs

November 12, 2016 – Roxbury, NJ – Following the United States U18 Womens Fistball Team 5th place finish at the Youth World Fistball Championships held this past summer in Germany, the US program continues training and preparation for the 2018 competition. Mr. Bob Feid, President of the United States Fistball Association is continuing the work of growing the Women’s program but also to building and adding a Men’s U18 team.

With the United States competing with Youth National teams, Roxbury, NJ is likely to host the 2018 U18 World Championships. Additionally, the USA U18 girls and boys teams have been invited to compete in the 2017 U18 European Fistball Championships in Switzerland next July.

Recently Mr. Feid and the 2016 US U18 Team Captain, Christine Connelly attended a Rockaway Rotary Club meeting to introduce area business leaders to the sport, in hopes of garnering interest.

When asked about being a member of the team, Ms. Connelly, a Junior at Morris Hills High School, had this to say. “I am surprised at how much I love fistball. For having only played it in such a short period of time.”

Mr. Feid encourages all young men and women to come to the demonstrations and practices from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 20th. Held at the Roxbury High School gym youth aged 13-17 are invited to come, watch and participate.

In his efforts to grow the sport, Mr. Feid has been instrumental in introducing it to schools around the country, sending instructional videos and basic equipment to schools that request it.

“We are working with many school physical education programs in other states. They have taken up the sport as a way to keep youth engaged in physical activity. A new sport is often welcome for those that are weary of competitive travel teams. Fistball gives the kids the opportunity to try a new sport without the stress, expense and time commitment of travel teams.”

Mr. Feid has been a lifelong player of Fistball. He got his start as a child when he and his family became members of the Swim and Sport Club in the early 1970’s. The SSC, located on Emmans Road in the Flanders section of Roxbury is the only active club playing fistball in Northern New Jersey.
