This year marks the anniversary of back to back championships for Jefferson Township rec wrestling, and the program is looking to get new kids and talent involved in the program this season.
Program officials would love to see many of the town’s youth football players involved, as the skills needed to master both sports complement each other. Some of those skills include but are not limited to footwork, hand-eye coordination, mental toughness, explosive movements and balance.
Wrestling is an amazing sport for building total strength and overall endurance. Just as important, it is also a fantastic way for young kids to get fit, said Mark Patscher of rec wrestlng. It is reported that well over 10 percent of the NFL has a wrestling background. Additionally, 10 Hall of Fame players, 3 Heisman Trophy winners and 43 ,ultiple pro bowlers have also wrestled.

The township's Wrestling program is one of the best run programs offered in town, and well known throughout the state, Patscher said. The Clinic program is for grades K-2, and registration is only $60. The varsity program is for grades 3-8, and registration is only $90. To encourage eighth graders to join the team and prepare for high school, the registration fee is waived for eighth grade students.
