WARETOWN, NJ — UPDATE: Route 9 in Waretown has been reopened in both directions after a transformer fire caused lane closures Friday morning.
The transformer fire closed Route 9 in both directions north of Wells Mills Road, authorities said.
A downed pole and wires were reported in the northbound lanes just after 11 a.m., according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Authorities were urging motorists to follow the detour or take an alternate route.
Route 9 was also closed in Waretown between Lighthouse Drive and N. Main Street due to a motor vehicle accident, authorities said Friday morning.

The accident happened just before 9 a.m., according to Ocean Township police.
