Dog Rescued From Abandoned House; Now At Popcorn Park Shelter

Police found Briana in an abandoned Irvington house. They believe she was used for dog fighting. Now she's looking for a loving home.

LACEY, NJ — Briana had a difficult life before she came to the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter. Police found the pooch in an abandoned house in Irvington.

She suffered a mangled ear and had old puncture wounds throughout her body. Briana was likely used for dog fighting, the shelter says.

After much time spent healing, Briana is ready for a forever home.

"Briana undoubtedly received some very cruel treatment throughout her life," the Popcorn Park Shelter said, "yet as soon as she meets you, she wants nothing more than to be near you and soak up every bit of attention that you'll give her."

Irvington police notified Associated Humane Societies of Newark about Briana. She received veterinary care, and professionals worked hard to clean her wounds.

Most of Briana's injuries were old and had healed, but her injured ear looked salvageable. As soon as the veterinarian cleaned her ear, it actually fell off, but the wound was healed.

Even after all she's endured, Briana loves people and is "pretty good with other larger dogs," the Popcorn Park Shelter said.

"Briana adores people and actually whines to get closer to you, even jumping up into your lap when she can manage it!" the shelter said.

Now she's ready to move on to a loving family, preferably one that's feline-free.

Popcorn Park asked people to donating to their ResQ Fund on Briana's behalf. The fund helps other animals like her get help they need. You can donate through the Popcorn Park Shelter's Facebook post about Briana.
