Lacey Girls Softball Team Clinches South Jersey Group III State Finals

Lacey triumphs over Mainland Regional, 7-3 after coming from behind.

LACEY - The Lacey girls softball team rallied after four scoreless innings and seized the South Jersey Group III state finals from Mainland Regional to win their first sectional championship in the school's history, according to app.com.

“Our offense took a little while to get going, but you witnessed it, you saw it, when the hits started coming it was contagious,” Lions coach Tom Faulkner said. “Then our super sophomore Catie Hughes came up and delivered the big blow. That’s why we have her in the (designated player) spot, for moments like this. A lot of hard work in practice, patience and confidence led up to that moment for her, and she came through for us.”

Lacey was third-seeded going into the game against fifth-seeded Mainland. The Lions were trailing 3-1 at the bottom of the sixth inning.
