Lacey Outdoor Gym Closed, But No Staff Positive For Coronavirus
Retro Fitness closed for deep cleaning, but the owner says no staff had tested positive for the coronavirus.
LACEY, NJ — Retro Fitness in Lacey, which has offered free outdoor classes for members, closed for much of the last two weeks. The gym first canceled classes from July 20-24 for a "proactive deep cleaning" and then shuttered Monday through Friday because of recent cases locally and at restaurants in town.
But no employee has tested positive for the coronavirus, owner Ron Pfeiffer told Patch. He decided to temporarily cancel outdoor classes for a few other reasons and continue to evaluate the situation.
"We did have a staff member whose relative was taken to the hospital with COVID symptoms," Pfeiffer said, "so I decided to be proactive instead of reactive. So the classes were canceled."

Retro Fitness also decided to cancel classes for the last two weeks because of heat and recent cases locally and at other Lacey businesses.

Caffrey's Backyard and Captain's Inn temporarily closed because of the virus. Two Caffrey's employees tested positive for the coronavirus, the establishment announced June 23. Captain's Inn closed this past week after an employee tested positive for the virus "due to an outside influence."
Both have since been able to reopen.
Gyms face a different struggle though, since state officials have not provided information on when their businesses may reopen.
"We look forward to the day when we can reopen our gym," Pfeiffer said, "as these last four-and-a-half months being closed, has taken a huge financial toll on us."
