LACEY, NJ — Before the coronavirus outbreak, Lacey was set to offer children plenty to do this spring and summer. Officials finished renovations on Gille Park's playground, and the Wibit — a giant inflatable water park — was set to return to Lake Barnegat.

But summer is far from over, and the Wibit and Gille Park playground will reopen soon. Governor Phil Murphy announced Tuesday that playgrounds, water and amusement parks can reopen July 2. Read more: Gov. Murphy: NJ Playgrounds, Water And Amusement Parks To Reopen

Officials finished replacing the Gille Park playground in mid-March, but that came when Murphy ordered the closure of playgrounds.

Lacey received some buzz last year for opening the Wibit. The floating water park features monkey bars, a half pipe, bridges, ramps, slides and more.

The structure is only open to Lacey residents this year as a precautionary measure against COVID-19, says Lacey Township Administrator Veronica Laureigh.

But it will open soon. The Wibit is set for July 1 installation and a July 3 opening, Laureigh said.

"We are elated to say the least to have our playground and waterpark able to be open," she said.
