Memorial Service Set For Former Lacey Police Chief

A memorial service for Thomas R. Darmody III will be held at Riggs Funeral Home in Forked River on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

LACEY, NJ — A memorial service for retired Lacey police chief, Thomas R. Darmody III, will be held at Riggs Funeral Home in Forked River on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Darmody died in his home on May 7 at 81 years old, according to his obituary. He served the Lacey Township Police Department for over four decades.

Darmody began working for the Lacey Township Police Department in 1962 and was promoted to chief of police in 1972. At that time, he was the youngest police chief in Ocean County at 32 years old.

He became the longest serving chief of police in Lacey Township history from 1972 until his retirement in 2004.

“The Lacey Township Police Department would not be what it is today, without Chief Darmody's dedicated services, and passion for our community,” Lacey police said in a news release. "His legacy will always be remembered, and carried on, by the men and women of this agency. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Madlyn, his children, and the Darmody family, during this difficult time."
