Once Starving, Pit Bull Gets New Lease On Life At Popcorn Park

Ringo came to Popcorn Park at only 14 pounds with a strange backstory. Once healthy, he'll be up for adoption.

LACEY, NJ — Ringo arrived at the Popcorn Park Shelter starving, dehydrated and full of scrapes, scabs and sores. The pit bull weighed only 14 pounds when he was brought in late February to the shelter.

The pooch has gained 11 pounds in less than two weeks, and his skin is healing. Once Ringo is completely healthy, Associated Humane Societies will make him available for adoption.

Ringo's backstory is a little complicated. Popcorn Park feels they'll never truly know what happened to him. They were told he is about one year old.

The person who brought Ringo to the shelter said he was found behind a local store. Popcorn Park's animal control officer, Maria, investigated the case a little further.

She found that he wasn't actually abandoned, but he had an owner that "rescued" him from somewhere down south about a year ago. When he began losing weight and his health declined, his owner couldn't afford veterinary care. Regardless, Popcorn Park is glad he's with them now.

When Ringo arrived, Popcorn Park took him straight to their medical department for an evaluation. He immediately devoured food and drank a bowl of water.

"It could be that his body was breaking down from malnutrition, or that there is an underlying condition causing this," the shelter wrote in a Facebook post. "We are still running tests and hope to know more soon."

The shelter describes him as bright and bubbly, making friends instantly and loving everyone he meets. While he's getting medical care, Popcorn Park is asking for donations on the post below.
