All-Girls Exit 5 Robotics Team Among Top Contenders in Championship

The all-girls robotics team Exit 5 took home three awards and finished in the top 20.

Robotics teams from the U.S., Mexico, Korea and Canada took over LegoLand in Carlsbad, California last month with the Exit 5 Robotics team of Livingston finishing in the top 20 worldwide.

Judges recognized Exit 5 Robotics three times during the North American Open Championship, which took place May 16 to 18, including a second-place nod in the Gracious Professionalism category and an honorable mention in both the Research Project and Core Values categories.

The all-girls team competed against 76 of the best from across the world and were in the top 12 contenders vying for the overall award.

The team also participated in the robot game and were able to create a robot capable of consistently scoring 550 points, close to that of a world record. The team scored 420 points overall in the game when unforeseen difficulties trumped their second and third chances.

The team finished in the top .1 percent of teams and capped off a year of success.
