Essex County Police and Public Safety Expo is Saturday

Livingston Mall is scene of annual event featuring Batman, live performances -- and a helicopter landing.

The annual Essex County Police and Public Safety Expo, which is sponsored by the Essex County Crime Prevention Officers Association, will be held at the Livingston Mall on May 4, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  There will be demonstrations and displays throughout the mall from local, county, state and federal agencies. 

Last year’s Expo featured nearly 40 participating organizations.  This year, there will be appearances by Batman, Malibu Barbie and McGruff the Crime Dog, canine and mounted police units, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Crime Scene Unit, NJSPCA Mobile Command Center Disaster Response Unit, NJ Department of Corrections demonstrations and displays, vocal performances by Pastele, law enforcement and fire department vehicles, child safety seat inspections, a fire safety house and the landing of the New Jersey State Police NorthSTAR helicopter. 

The opening ceremony will be at 11:00 a.m. and will honor the Police Unity Tour and the Essex County Crime Prevention Officers of the Year:  Det. Debra Cole-Granger of Newark Police Department and Sgt. Richard Potts (Ret.) of West Orange Police Department.  The Police Unity Tour's founder, Chief Patrick P. Montuore of the Florham Park Police Department, will be present at the ceremony.
