LHS Alum Gets Tony Nod for 'Kinky Boots'

Stephen Oremus, who previously won for 'Book of Mormon,' is nominated again.

 

Livingston High School alumni Stephen Oremus (LHS Class of '89) was nominated Tuesday for a Tony Award for "Best Orchestration" for Kinky Boots, the new Broadway show with music by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein. The musical received 13 nominations, the most of any show this year.

for which he received the 2011 Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Orchestrations. He also received a 2012 Grammy award as a producer of The Book of Mormon original Broadway cast recording.

Previously, Oremus was the music supervisor and arranger of the original Broadway and subsequent worldwide productions of Wicked and Avenue Q, which he also orchestrated.

In 2012, he was inducted into the Livingston High School Hall of Fame.

The show was also nominated for best musical, director, actor, score and choreographer, while its biggest rival, Matilda, had 12 nominations in many of the same categories, according to The New York Times. 

The 67th annual Tony Awards will be on CBS on Sunday, June 9.
