Livingston Bicentennial Holds Bike Tour Poster Contest

Children and teens invited to design poster and logo for family bike tour on June 2.

The Livingston Bicentennial Committee, West Essex YMCA and a citizen committee of biking and wellness advocates are collaborating to present a family-oriented bike tour on Sunday, June 2 as part of the Livingston Bicentennial celebration.

The committee is inviting children and teens to enter a poster and logo contest to spread the word about the event and about healthy living. The winner will receive $100 worth of bike accessories.

"Under the theme Bike Livingston, we hope children will create pictures that convey the spirit of family biking and healthy activity," said committee member Michael Schofel. Submissions will be selected for display on June 2.

"The tour will be a fun, non-competitive event, with a short course for younger or leisurely riders and a longer course for those who want a little more challenge," said Helen Flores, executive director of the West Essex Y and chairperson of the Bike Livingston committee. "We envision Livingston families enjoying an easy, healthy ride through some of Livingston's neighborhoods, and seeing our town from a different vantage point -- a bicycle seat."
