Livingston, MADD Launch Drunk Driving Holiday Safety Campaign
Time to tie one on – for safety – this holiday season in Livingston.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Time to tie one on – for safety – this holiday season in Livingston.
On Nov. 14, Livingston Health Educator Jessica Kelly and Livingston Police Officer Joy Klapal distributed red ribbons at the Livingston Public Library as part of MADD’s “Tie One On for Safety” campaign.
According to a town news release, MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) began the Tie One On for Safety campaign in 1986. The number of drunk driving-related motor vehicle accidents tends to be higher during the holiday season from November through December 31. The campaign asks drivers to tie a red ribbon in a visible location in their vehicle during the holiday season as a reminder to never drink and drive.

Town officials stated:
“While the blood-alcohol concentration of a drunk driver is considered to be 0.08 g/dl, even a smaller amount of blood-alcohol concentration can affect judgment and vision and reduce coordination. Each year, there are about 10,000 fatalities due to drinking and driving. If you are planning to drink, designate someone in the group as a non-drinking driver, contact someone who has not been drinking to take you home, take public transportation, or call a taxi or other transportation service (e.g. Uber or Lyft). If someone with you has been drinking, do not let them drive, and help them find a safe way of getting home.”
MADD ribbons are still available at the Livingston Public Library, 10 Robert H. Harp Drive. Stop by the library to pick up a MADD ribbon for your vehicle and tie it in a visible location this holiday season, officials said.
