Storm In Livingston Brings Down 'Numerous' Trees, Wires: UPDATED

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston public safety officials are advising residents to stay safe and report any power outages as bad weather from Tropical Storm Isaias hits New Jersey on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch across New Jersey as Tropical Storm Isaias made its way north through the mid-Atlantic, packing winds of nearly 50 mph. Gov. Phil Murphy issued a state of emergency for all 21 counties that took effect at 5 a.m. and will last until 4 p.m.

“Livingston’s local utilities are monitoring the predicted hazardous weather conditions,” township officials stated on the municipal website Monday.

PSE&G reported that tens of thousands of customers lost power throughout Essex County, including Livingston.

Police wrote:

"Be advised that as of 2:30 p.m., the Livingston Police department is experiencing electrical and power issues in our dispatch center. This has affected our phone systems including 9-1-1. Our backup 9-1-1 is continuing to take calls for emergencies and service to our community has not been interrupted. We recognize that our community is experiencing power issues along with other non-life-threatening emergencies. We are doing our best to make proper notifications to our utility companies and we will continue to provide this community with the service it deserves. We hope to rectify the problems expeditiously and return to full service as soon as possible."
