LIVINGSTON, NJ — Police in Livingston are “keeping an extra watch” of houses of worship in the township in light of a recent resurgence in Israeli-Palestinian violence overseas, authorities say.

A new round of Israeli-Palestinian fighting in the long-running conflict escalated Wednesday, The New York Times reported.

Israeli airstrikes and Hamas rocket fire has killed dozens of people, including children, and has prompted the United Nations to warn that the conflict could mean “full-scale war,” CNN reported.

On Wednesday, the Livingston Police Department posted the following message on social media:

“Chief [Gary] Marshuetz and the Livingston Police Department are aware of and closely monitoring the situation in Israel. In light of the current status, we will be keeping an extra watch of all houses of worship and other facilities within the township. Our thoughts and prayers are with any of our residents and their loved ones who are overseas.”
