The New Year of the Trees was a learning time at Temple B'nai Abraham

Second grader Ben Epstein has a worm at home.

The students in Temple  B’nai Abraham’s Jewish Education Program, including Ben, embraced different activities in a Learning Celebration for Tu B’Shvat, the Jewish New Year of the Trees.

In one of the environmental activities the students explored facts about earthworms (Lumbricus terrestris), compost heaps and Jewish instructions for guarding the earth. They created a mini-compost heap for their adopted worm, which made its way into many local homes. The kids were taught how to care for their worms in order to to watch the little earthworm interact in its environment.  Pictured here, Ben is showing off his worm and its special home.
