Sherrill Tours Livingston Vaccine Site, Meets Sanskriti Of NJ
Rep. Mikie Sherrill visited a COVID vaccine site in Livingston. She also praised members of Sanskriti of NJ for their community work.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Since it closed its doors, the former Sears store at the Livingston Mall has gained a new life – at least temporarily.
The site of the former retail store now hosts one of the county’s five COVID-19 vaccine centers, which is capable of giving about 2,000 shots per day. It has seen visits from several high-profile elected officials, including U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill.
Last week, Sherrill toured the site with officials from Essex County and Livingston, noting that it has the capacity to average 47 shots every 10 minutes… providing it has the supply.

Sherrill, who represents Livingston and other municipalities in the 11th District, also took the time to pay a visit to members of the Sanskriti of New Jersey at the Livingston Community Center.
The Livingston-based nonprofit serves the Asian Indian community of Essex County. According to a statement from the congresswoman’s office, its members have also been working to support the Community Food Bank of New Jersey with virtual concerts during the pandemic, and have collected donations of protective equipment for local health care workers and first responders.

I sat down w/ the leaders of Sanskriti of New Jersey to discuss the impact of COVID on their community, including how they pivoted to offer online Sanskriti Indian School, postcard outreach to new families moving into the area & activities like cricket and virtual music therapy. pic.twitter.com/fnoxsTghfD

The group offered a thank-you to Sherrill on social media.
“We continue to work towards our mission to keep growing as an Indian community and being there to help and support each other,” the nonprofit wrote. “We can't do it by ourselves, and invite everyone in the community to step forward and volunteer.”
