Spin For A Great Cause

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Let's Knock Cancer Out Of The Park.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month and West Orange resident Maxine Davner would like you to take a spin for a great cause.

“Team Jake” is in honor of Jake Kestler, a Livingston teenager that has been playing Little League Baseball since he was 5 years old. At the age of 7, Jake was diagnosed with Leukemia and has been battling cancer on and off since that time. In 2017, his coach Dr. Steven Arsht started the “Knock Cancer Out of the Park” campaign which has been greatly supported by Livingston Township and Livingston Little League. On April 15, 2017, the opening day of Livingston Little League, Mayor Klein declared the day “Knock Cancer Out of the Park Day.”

The Davner family has known Jake and his family since he was born and “wants to do anything to help, so children don’t have to battle with this terrible disease.” Sons, Ryan and Brett are extremely close with Jake and have started selling Knock Cancer Out of the Park water bottles to raise money as well.

Cycle Bar has a program called Cycle Giving which according to their website, “partners up with local organizations and charities and creates exciting and energetic premium indoor cycling charity rides to support the organizations’ cause.” The Davners got together with Cycle Bar and on Sunday September 30th at 12:30pm, Cycle Bar of Livingston will be holding the “Cycle Bar's Knock Cancer out of the Park” ride for “Team Jake.”

According to Cure Search for Childhood Cancer, approximately 15,300 children from 0 to the age of 19 in the United States will be diagnosed with pediatric cancer this year. Fortunately, survival and recovery rates for children with cancer have greatly improved over the past couple of decades.
