ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A group of 7th grade students from Livingston and West Orange recently worked together to create a unique Holocaust commemorative mural, which included drawings, photographs and quotes from “The Diary of Anne Frank.”

Students at the Bayt Yeladim Jewish Learning Center in Livingston carefully ripped, crumpled and then burned the mural paper outside, since the word “Holocaust” means “destruction by fire,” according to school administrators.

They then wrote the words “Holocaust” and “Shoah” on the mural from a burned branch and used metal staples to represent the barbed wire fences… a fitting tribute to Yom Hashoah, commonly known as Holocaust Remembrance Day.
