LONG BRANCH, NJ — Monmouth Medical Center was just named as one of America’s 50 Best Teaching Hospitals by The Washington Monthly.

The magazine is known for its annual ranking of American colleges and universities, which serves as an alternative to the Forbes and U.S. News & World Report rankings. The Washington Monthly ranks hospitals on how well they save lives, save money and serve the public.

Teaching hospital rankings were based on their performance in three broad categories: patient outcomes (mortality, etc.), civic leadership (treating lower-income and minority patients, etc.), and value of care (avoiding overtreatment).
