Faulty Lightning Arrester Triggered Long Valley Power Outage
The most recent thunderstorm storm caused some damage to the arrester, which JCP&L plans to replace in the near future.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — More than 1,700 Washington Township residents were without power for some of their morning on Thursday, when a faulty lightning arrester tripped a breaker.
Shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday, Mayor Matt Murello told his Facebook followers, JCP&L had been in touch with him about a power outage involving about 1,715 residents within the Newburgh Road station service area.

Washington Township’s Office of Emergency Management advised residents at about 9:15 a.m., there was an uptick since Murello's post, with 1,726 customers impacted at that time.

At about 10:05 a.m., the Township’s Facebook page had an update posted that power had been restored for all residents in the outage area.
Murello said he was in touch with JCP&L and had been told a lightning arrester that was struck and slightly damaged in the last thunderstorm, tripped the breaker. He said JCP&L reset the breaker and plans to replace the lightning arrester in the near future.
