Green Infrastructure Presentation

Learn about cost-effective, sustainable, and environmentally friendly ways to deal with stormwater runoff.

LONG VALLEY - The Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) Water Resources Program's mission is to identity and address water resources issues by engaging and empowering communities to employ practical science-based solutions to help create a more equitable and sustainable New Jersey. They received a grant from the New Jersey Highlands Council to identify green stormwater infrastructure opportunities throughout the 27 municipalities in the Highlands portion of Watershed Management Area 8 - North and South Branch Raritan River. Green stormwater infrastructure is an approach to stormwater management that is cost-effective, sustainable, and environmentally friendly. It includes practices like rain gardens, bioswales, permeable pavements, rainwater harvesting systems, and green roofs that capture, filter, absorb, and reuse stormwater to maintain or mimic natural systems and treat runoff as a resource.

As part of their grant with the New Jersey Highlands Council, RCE completed green infrastructure plans for all 27 municipalities including Washington Township. Their presentation will discuss the plans that were developed for our town. The program will be hosted by the Washington Township Public Library and be held live over Zoom on Wednesday, May 12th at 7 p.m..
