Historic Homes Recognized In Long Valley For Preservation Efforts
Six homes including one that had formerly been a tavern, were chosen for their historical upkeep.
LONG VALLEY — Six homeowners were recently honored for their beautification efforts in preserving their historic homes.
The homes were each recognized with a 2021 Historic Preservation Award from the Washington Township Historic Preservation Commission.
The six winning homes were first announced at a Zoom event at the Washington Township Public Library hosted on May 15, when the public also had the opportunity to learn about the importance of preserving historical structures. The winners were announced again at the May 17 Township Committee meeting.

The homes honored included: the former Lymon Kice house on East Mill Rd.; a home that had been both the Pleasant Grove Jug Tavern and Hilltop Inn on Pleasant Grove Rd.; the former Henry P. Dufford home on Schooley’s Mountain Road; the John Crater farmstead on Parker Rd.; a house on Fairview Ave; and a home on Fairmount Rd.
Mayor Matt Murello gave a mention to the homes’ present owners on his Facebook Page, telling his followers that there will soon be plaques placed on in the front of each of their houses, to raise awareness of those that were recognized for 2021.

“The lawn plaques will be displayed soon so when you are in these areas of town, take a look at the great work these families did in restoring these homes to their original beauty,” Murello said.
