Lifetime Learning Lecture Series Returns to the Library

Washington Twp. Public Library will host lecture series on Country Music, Religious Pluralism in America, and the Virginia Woolf.

LONG VALLEY -- The Friends of the Washington Township Public Library have announced that the popular adult enrichment program, Lifetime Learning, will resume beginning March 29th.

Since 2012, this series has presented college-level instructors offering four-lecture courses on a variety of subjects. There are no residency requirements, and tuition is $25 per course for Friends members and $30 for non-members.

The first series will be “I Hear the Train a Comin': The History of American Country Music.” It will be led by Dr. Robert Butts, Artistic Director/Conductor, The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, and Professor, Montclair State University & College of Saint Elizabeth. The series will run four Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., beginning March 29th, with additional lectures on April 5, 12, and 26.

The next series will present an offering from Dr. Jessica Brent, Adjunct Professor of English at Raritan Valley Community College. Her series will focus on the modernist writer Virginia Woolf. The series begins on May 2 and will run for four consecutive Thursday evenings, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Finally, the third series will examine the history of religious pluralism in America. It will be led by Dr. Jonathan Golden, Director, Center on Religion, Culture and Conflict and Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Comparative Religion, Drew University. This series will run across three consecutive Fridays, beginning May 3rd at 10:30 a.m. Lectures in this series will last an hour-and-a-half.
