Long Valley Business Owner Passes Away

​John G. Hemmings, 88, owned Hemmings Moving.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Obituary provided by the William J. Leber Funeral Home:

John G. Hemmings, 88, of Long Valley, NJ passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center. John was born on March 20, 1930 in Morristown, NJ and lived a short time in Newark. John lived most of his life in his family home in Long Valley which was bought by his grandmother 99 years ago. John was the owner of Hemmings Moving.

John was Charter President of Long Valley Jaycee Club, past President of Chester/Long Valley Rotary Club, 2-time winner of the Paul Harris Award, a Tri-state Railroad club member, and a docent at the Long Valley Historical Society. He also volunteered at the Millbrook Village and for Habitat for Humanity. John enjoyed restoring farm tractors.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan Hemmings, his children, John and wife Janet Bell, and Chris and husband Scott Thomas Holds, his grandsons, Daniel and Douglas, his sister, Betty Nash and husband Harry, his beloved Yorkie, Charlie, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, William Hemmings, and sister, Alice Emmons.

A Celebration of John’s Life will include a visitation from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ (908) 879-3090. A 10:30am funeral service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Washington Township Historical Society, P.O. Box 189, Long Valley, NJ 07853.
