Long Valley Man Flees Accident Scene: Police

Thomas Javier was drunk when he sideswiped a vehicle and left the accident scene, police said.

LONG VALLEY, NJ - A 55-year-old Long Valley man fled the scene after sideswiping a vehicle while drunk driving on Sept. 27, according to the Washington Township Police Department.

Washington Township officers were called to East Springtown Road and Naughright Road after receiving a report of a man in distress, police said. Once on scene, police found a disabled motor vehicle in the lane of travel with heavy front end damage, authorities said.

The investigation showed Thomas Javier was driving while intoxicated on Route 46 East in Mount Olive Township and turned right onto Naughright Road and while turning onto Naughright Road, sideswiped a vehicle stopped at the traffic light waiting to turn onto Route 46 West, police said.

Javier left the scene of the accident and later and fled until his car broke down on East Springtown Road, police said.

Mount Olive Police officers arrived and questioned Javier about the motor vehicle crash and Washington Township officers performed field sobriety tests on him.

After completion of the tests, Javier was placed under arrest, handcuffed and transported to Police Headquarters for processing, police said.

Javier was issued motor vehicle summons for DWI, reckless driving, and careless driving. Javier was provided a mandatory court date to appear in the Washington Township Municipal Court and released to a responsible party who signed the Potential Liability Form, police said.
