Man Attacked By Coyote In Long Valley

A 66-year-old man was attacked by a coyote in a Long Valley park.

LONG VALLEY, NJ— A man was attacked by a coyote in a Long Valley park Wednesday, Morris County Park Police said in a statement. Authorities say the animal might be rabid.

The 66-year-old Belvidere man was walking his dogs with two friends on Columbia Trail around 11:20 a.m. when the attack happened.

A coyote came out of the woods and bit the man on his right calf and buttocks. The man fought the coyote off with a stick, according to MCPP.

Morris County Park Police euthanized the coyote on scene by shooting it.

The man refused medical attention for minor injuries; police said he would go on his own for any required treatment.

Animal Control collected the coyote, which they believed to be rabid. It will be given to the state for rabies tests.
