Road, Park Projects Underway And Upcoming In Long Valley

Over the summer, 7 miles of roads will be rehabbed. Tennis court and playground upgrades are planned. The hockey rink should open in July.

LONG VALLEY, NJ —Washington Township is gearing up for some road improvement projects over the summer of 2021 and currently has some upgrades to the tennis courts and Rock Spring Park.

Washington Township Mayor Matt Murello said the township’s hockey rink is also expected to open in July.

In Murello’s “Mayor’s Update,” which he posted to his Facebook Page on Tuesday, he said that over the summer, milling and paving projects are expected for Rock Road, Spring Road, Dogwood Drive and Hemlock Drive.

A portion of Pleasant Grove Road between North Mount Lebanon Road and the county line are also slated for improvements, Murello said.

Most of the Rock Road improvements will be grant-funded, he said, with the township having already received $320,000 in grant monies for the upgrades.

On Monday, the Township Committee adopted a resolution to submit a grant contract to New Jersey’s Department of Transportation for the improvements to Coleman Road.

Stephensburg and Beacon Hill Roads from Abedim Way to West Mill Road will undergo an oil and chip sealing process, Murello said.

Some of the township’s other upgrades are to its recreational facilities. While the tennis courts have been repaired and resurfaced, the township plans to repaint the pickle ball court lines, Murello reported.

The dinosaur in Rock Spring Park’s playground is being repaired, with it expected to be finished in July.

At Monday’s meeting, the committee also adopted a resolution authorizing Murello and Washington Township Administrator Andrew Coppola to apply for a Morris County Trail Construction Grant for $84,150, to extend Rock Spring Park’s trail about 1,000 feet, a recommendation from the Ad Hoc Trails Committee.

The hockey rink, Murello said, should be open in July.

“Thank you to all the public and private partners that made that project a reality,” Murello said.
