Washington Township To Celebrate Arbor Day With Seedling Giveaway

Washington Township will give away some seedlings this weekend.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township will celebrate Arbor Day by giving away seedlings to residents.

Long Valley residents can go to Rock Spring Park Gazebo, 35 E. Springtown Road, after 11 a.m. on Saturday to participate.

Supply is limited — first come, first served.

New Jersey celebrates Arbor Day on the last Friday in April, which this year is April 30. The Garden State celebrated its first Arbor Day in 1884.

The nation's first Arbor Day occurred 12 years prior in Nebraska, where more than one million trees were planted. Each state had a law designating Arbor Day by the 1920s.
