West Morris Central Fencing Teams Open Up the Seasons

WMC Fencing Teams Have Wins

On Saturday December 15th, conference competition began with a furor. Four high schools spent most of the day in a quad school meet; a style similar to collegiate competitions.

Morris Hills hosted the day with West Morris Central (WMC), Morris Catholic and Kinnelon High Schools filling out the roster of schools.

WMC teams opened up against Kinnelon with the Boys team winning 23-4 and the Girls team winning 17-10. Both the foil squads led the teams with the Boys foil going 9-0 and Girls foil ending up 8-1 with their best finish of the day.

The next round against Morris Hills had losses for both the WMC teams with the Boys foil squad almost able to pull out a second squad win with 4-5 record; definitely setting the stage for the upcoming Morris County Championships when they meet Morris Hills again on January 5th.

WMC Boys rounded out the day with a solid win of 21-6 against Morris Catholic; leaving WMC Boys with a 2-1 record. The Girls team that had several freshmen and sophomores starting varsity had ended the day 1-2 with a loss against Morris Catholic.

Senior and captain Nate Mange had the strongest record of the day; sweeping all of his foil bouts and going 9-0 overall. Fellow squad mate Dusty Howell went 7-2 overall for the day with two 3-0 meets for foil. Drew Cretella also went 7-2 for the Wolfpack; with two 3-0 meets. Sabre was led by Matt Stanton having a 6-3 record for the day with a 3-0 meet against Kinnelon.

Both teams will be away on Thursday December 20th when they travel to Morristown High School before the winter break.
