West Morris Central Named A Top STEM School By Newsweek

The magazine named WMCHS one of the best schools in the country for science, technology, engineering and math.

CHESTER, NJ — West Morris Central High School was named one of the best STEM schools in the country in a new ranking by Newsweek.

The magazine ranked Central 1,435th out of 5,000 schools nationwide for excellence in science, technology, engineering and math. All of the schools recognized "offer skilled teachers who keep up with developments in these fields and who create dynamic learning environments to engage their students," the magazine said.

"Children don’t realize it, but they’re natural STEM students," says Nancy Cooper, Newsweek's editor in chief. "We need to make sure that innate drive, curiosity, and creativity aren’t lost along the way. These high schools are helping to ensure America’s future in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is in good hands."

Rankings were calculated by Newsweek and STEM.org using several data points, including " a broad set of quantitative and qualitative data inputs collected" between 2015 and 2019. Factors like affluence and median household income were taken into account, but the magazine was not more specific in what types of grades or test scores were used in the rankings.
