200 Vaccinated At Mahwah COVID Clinic: Mayor

The COVID-19 vaccine clinic focused on residents 85 and older, but officials hope to vaccinate others soon.

MAHWAH, NJ — Two hundred COVID-19 vaccines were administered at a Mahwah clinic Wednesday, Mayor Jim Wysocki announced.

The vaccine clinic was hosted in partnership between the township, Mahwah Health Department, North West Bergen Regional Health Commission, Mahwah EMS and the Community Emergency Response Team, according to Wysocki.

Residents 85 and up were of the utmost priority, but Wysocki said he'd like to see others vaccinated in Mahwah as more doses become available to municipalities in Bergen County.

It could indeed just be the beginning.

Bergen County has been able to get over 30,000 residents in the vaccination program at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center thus far, but County Executive Jim Tedesco said getting an appointment remains difficult during his State of the County address this week. "I give you my word, I will do everything in my power to get more needles in the arms of our residents," he said.

As part of that effort, the county shifted distribution toward stocking the New Bridge site, and away from providing extra doses to municipal-run sites, citing lack of stock.

New Jersey's stockpile should be growing in the coming weeks, however, after the state receives a reported 70,000 doses of the newly approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine by the end of the week.

More people are now eligible to receive the vaccine as well after Gov. Phil Murphy expanded the list to include educators, tribal communities, day care workers, public transit employees and those experiencing homelessness, among others.
