$50 Million Bergen Mansion, The State's Most Expensive, Is Still For Sale 5 Years Running

The $50 million Stone Mansion in Alpine is the most expensive property for sale in New Jersey right now — and it has been on the market for more than five years.

The mansion's list price of nearly $50 million is 10 times the average $5 million home price in Alpine, which is about eight miles from New York City.

The 30,000-square-foot home boasts an indoor basketball court, 4,000-bottle wine cellar, movie theater, fitness center, and elevator.

"We're trying to attract an urban buyer who seeks refuge from urban living without a three-hour commute," Leonard Steinberg, president of Compass, a luxury real estate listing service, told CNN in a recent interview.

But refuge comes at a price.

Annual taxes on the 30,000-square-foot home are $300,000.

"At this price point, you are supposed to be buying a property that's supposed to deliver on every level," Steinberg said in the CNN.com piece.
