Bergen County Mom Loses Fight With ALS
Donna Myhre was a middle school teacher in Montvale. She bravely fought against the disease for several years.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Donna Myhre wanted to see her daughter Mikayla start kindergarten. She did just that.
Myhre, 43, died Saturday morning after battling ALS — Lou Gehrig's disease — for years. She was a teacher at Fieldstone Middle School in Montvale for 12 years before she was forced to leave after her diagnosis.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched last month to help the family pay for out-of-pocket medical expenses. Nearly $19,000 was donated to the campaign.

"I will miss Donna so much. She came into my life only four years ago, but I am sure that God brought us together so that our daughters could grow up together with Donna always watching over us," Jessica said on the GoFundMe page. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and Mikayla, and we will always do what we can to keep her memory and her fight alive. She was a beautiful person, inside and out."
Myhre and her family were featured on NBC's home renovation show "George To The Rescue" in 2016. The show had Myhre's home redesigned to be more user-friendly for her. The show memorialized Myhre on its Facebook page after learning of her death.
"The GTTR family is deeply saddened by Donna Myhre’s passing," the post read. "Donna will remain an inspiration to us all and our thoughts are with her loved ones."
