Bergen County's COVID Cases: See Town-By-Town Updates
The coronavirus continues to have an impact on Bergen County, according to updated state data. See how your town is doing below.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — New data has been released that shows the coronavirus continues to have an impact on Bergen County (see town-by-town totals below).
Bergen County reported 87,281 cases on Saturday, and uptick from 85,113 cases last week, and up from 83,146 cases the week before.
Variants have become an increasing concern in the state, but Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus is now able to better test for them.

New Bridge has expanded its variant testing this week to include 22 relevant COVID-19 mutations, hospital officials announced.
The hospital's laboratory started using a custom-built analysis panel within the Applied Biosystems TaqMan SARS-CoV-2 test in its in-house lab. This means that the hospital can adapt testing quickly as additional mutations and variants emerge. Read more: Bergen New Bridge Expands COVID Variant Testing

New Bridge also received Emergency Use Authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for an antibody test that accounts for COVID-19 immunity after a person has been vaccinated.
Hospital officials said this test will help physicians recognize vaccine generated immunity versus autoimmunity from a prior COVID-19 infection in their patients. New Bridge is the first hospital in the state to offer the test, officials said. Read more: New COVID Immunity Testing Approved For Use At Bergen New Bridge
While there are positives in the world of testing, county trends could prove troublesome.
The county's ongoing wastewater testing program indicates that the current concentration levels of COVID-19 are similar to those from the late fall and early winter of 2020, which were followed by a spike in cases.
There were 7,210 new positive coronavirus cases in Bergen County in March, county officials said. Read more: Bergen Wastewater Tests Signal Increase In Community COVID Spread
"The fact that community spread is trending towards the levels we saw post-Thanksgiving last year is troubling," said Hansel Asmar, Bergen County Department of Health Services director. "We need to double down on our collective efforts to reduce the spread. If the virus continues to mutate at the current pace, new-vaccine resistance variants could very well prolong this fight even further."
The disease’s impact is also reflected in the state Department of Health's most recent "COVID-19 Activity Level Report," which is issued weekly. The most recent report, for the week ending April 17, says Bergen County is in the “orange” zone.
If the county is in the "orange" zone, it means it has a rate of 10 to 25 cases per 100,000 people. “Yellow” means the county has a rate 1 to 10 cases per 100,000 people.
If the overall activity is at an "orange" level, state officials say, school districts in those counties would have to take more serious steps — such as quarantining or even shutting down schools — if a child shows the symptoms of COVID-19.
"When it is high risk, there are some recommendations that we make together with local school boards," said Edward Lifshitz, medical director for the state Department of Health.
