“To Everything there is a Season……”
While this quote comes directly from the word of God it’s also the sentiment of followers of major sports here in the northeast. The month of October presents the average fan with a confluence of activity as pro football, college football, hockey, basketball and of course baseball all battle for our attention and/or enterrtaiment dollar. For those of us that follow the games people play this season is often referred to as the best time of the year.
I’m not so sure.

The New York Yankees overachieved the experts’ predictions all year only to fall in the playoffs to the hated Deadsox of New England. To make matters even worse, Boston has advanced to the fall classic awaiting the winner of game 7 between the Dodgers and Brewers. Me? I love LA
The pro football season is over for me already as my beloved Giants have 5 losses before the month of October ends. It’s time to move on from Eli Manning. Much like his brother Peyton, Eli has stayed at the dance too long and the game has passed him by. Number 10 of the Giants appears to be waiting to ballroom dance and the rest of the league is grooving to disco. That’s about as simple as I can make it. Thanks for the memories and the two Super wins Eli maybe I ll see you around in Mahwah.

College football is in a precarious state for me as well. Kirby and the Boyz also known as the Georgia Bulldogs suffered a crushing blow to their championship dreams last week getting manhandled at LSU. The Dawgs need to use this week’s bye to gear up for the stretch with really not being able to lose any more games. Next week it’s the biggest outdoor cocktail party against Florida in Jacksonville followed by games against Kentucky and then Auburn. On a broader note College Football has become a race to see who gets humiliated by Alabama for the national championship. Don’t ya think?
Basketball and hockey have just begin their regular season schedules and so far none of my area teams, the Knicks and the Rangers, have any realistic shot of making the post season. Rebuilding takes time, I’m just glad I didn’t have to take out a mortgage to finance it.
One thing I can say that I like about this time of year is the beautiful fall scenery, the change in color as green leaves change their paint before falling to the ground. As temperatures fall from the 70’s to the 40’s I am reminded of one thing ole man winter is alive again, one of these years I’m gonna spend my season in Arizona, Wanna join me?
