BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — David A. Suescun was a "shipmate" to some and a son to his mother. To everyone else he was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Suescun, 19, was a Hackensack native and attended Hackensack High School. He was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 218 in King George County, Virginia Friday, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Keeli Hill in a news release. King George County is about 65 miles south of Washington, D.C..

"A life cut way too short," Jessie Capuano said on the GoFundMe page. "I’m so sorry for his family and for him."

"Rest easy shipmate," Nancy Perez posted on the GoFundMe page. "My deepest and most sincerest condolences. OTOM: One Team One Mission."

Suescun lost control of the vehicle he was driving and crashed into a tree, Hill said. Speed is being considered a factor in the cause of the crash, Hill said.

Suescun enlisted in the Navy on Jan. 24. He was a seaman apprentice and a fire controlman, his Navy biography states. He was a student at the AEGIS Training Readiness Center in Dahlgren, Virginia.
