Mahwah Department of Public Works Will Begin Storm Cleanup Monday

As over 4,000 residents remain without power, Mahwah has announced the township's clean up schedule for Monday.

MAHWAH, NJ — After Isaias brought heavy winds and plenty of downed tree limbs to the area, the Department of Public Works will begin pickup of tree and brush debris on Monday.

All limbs and brush must be cut to no longer than 3-feet, and must be placed in the street, the DPW said.

Many in the area are still without power following Tuesday's storm, as Orange & Rockland reports 4,587 Mahwah customers affected as of 3:30 p.m. Across Bergen County, more than 100,000 people are still without power.

In Mahwah, the Township Council announced that residents could use the library to cool off or use computers as the building still has power. The library is open, but still has restrictions related to the coronavirus.

The township pool will also be open today after a delayed start due to cleaning in the wake of the storm. It is open as of 3 p.m., and will remain open until 7 p.m.

Crews from Orange & Rockland restored power to approximately 80,000 of its nearly 200,000 affected customers, according to a news release from the company.

Over 150 additional contractor overhead line technicians are aiding today's efforts, which include restoring power to eight hospitals and more than 750 essential services customers who lost power, according to the company.

They are seeking an additional 750 technicians to aid restoration efforts.

Isaias brought strong winds to Mahwah which caused trees and limbs to fall, as well as power lines and wires. One resident shared a video of downed lines which started a fire in front of her home.
