Mahwah Judge Anthony Gianni 'Served With Distinction' For 49 Years
Anthony Gianni, 75, revered his children and grandchildren. He often met with Mahwah Police Officers over coffee.

MAHWAH, N.J. — Mahwah Municipal Court Judge Anthony "Tony" Gianni, who was the longest serving municipal court judge in Bergen County, died Wednesday.
Gianni, 75, died peacefully Wednesday at Oakland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center after a brief illness.
Gianni was the longest serving municipal court judge in Bergen County, with 49 years behind the bench.

Gianni was also a managing partner of the law firm Scafuro & Gianni for 49 years.
He was a graduate of Villanova University and Seton Hall Law School.

He was a Navy veteran and often spoke about how proud he was of his naval career, said Mayor William Laforet.
"During his career in Mahwah he quickly gained a reputation as a firm but fair judge who always took the time to listen to people who appeared before him," said Laforet.
Mahwah police officers who interacted with him remember him as a friend who always took the time to sit down with them over a cup of coffee, the mayor said.
Gianni is survived by his wife Dolores, sons Joseph and Anthony Jr., daughter Vickie and several grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Van Emburgh-Sneider Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul's R.C. Church in Ramsey at 10 a.m. Monday. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus.
