Mahwah Museum Presents 'Stitches In Time' Webinar

Peggy W. Norris will offer a unique history of American quilt making in March. Here's what to know.

MAHWAH, NJ — Start March off with a trip back in time through a unique time capsule: quilts.

On March 1 at 7:30 p.m., Peggy W. Norris will present a webinar “Stitches in Time: Quilts, 1800-1976.” During the presentation, she will explore a large variety of quilts, some dated as early as 1800, with a special look at quilts made in Bergen County, according to Mahwah Museum officials.

The webinar is free, but donations to the museum "are welcome." Registration is required, and can be done in advance at www.mahwahmuseum.org.

Best known for her study of local history and genealogy, Norris has also made a study of American quilts, especially those made in Bergen County.

She is a member of the local Brownstone Quilters Guild and the national American Quilt Study Group, as well as being a quilt-maker herself.

Norris and other local historians are planning a quilt and coverlet show for June 11 and 12 in Ridgewood, museum officials announced. Learn more about that show at www.bergencountyquiltandcoverletshow.com.

The Mahwah Museum is located at 201 Franklin Turnpike, Mahwah, NJ.

The museum is open to the public on Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. Admission is free for museum members and children, and $5 for non-members.

Ongoing rotating exhibits include Revealed: Women’s Fight for the Right to Vote, Palisades Amusement Park in Miniature, and A College Come to Mahwah: Ramapo College, 1965-1975.

Permanent exhibits are Les Paul in Mahwah and The Donald Cooper Model Railroad.
