Mahwah Pitcher Signs Contract With The Cincinnati Reds

Jerry D'Andrea, a recent graduate of Ramapo College, was captain of his Ramapo College baseball team.

MAHWAH, NJ — A local collegiate pitcher has signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds.

Jerry D'Andrea was a four-year player with the Ramapo College Roadrunners where he pitched in more than 50 games. The college announced the signing Tuesday.

D'Andrea was team captain this past season. He had a career 2.77 earned run average and struck out 176 batters.

He finished his Ramapo career number one in the college's history with career saves with 10 and in the top 10 for strikeouts in season, career strikeouts, and innings pitched in a season.

D'Andrea earned 1st Team All-Conference by D3baseball.com, All-Region second team, and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region second team while at Ramapo. He also earned an environmental science degree from Ramapo.

D'Andrea was twice named to the All-Division second team while playing at Ridgewood High School.

D'Andrea is the second Ramapo College pitcher to join the Reds organization recently. The Reds selected Cory Heitler in the 34th round of the Major League Baseball Draft Wednesday. Heitler is a Fair Lawn native.
