Mahwah's Giovanni 'Gio' Pertuz Was A 'Friend' And 'Brother'
Pertuz, 49, unexpectedly died Monday. He was a township firefighter for 11 years and the president of Company 2.

MAHWAH, NJ — Giovanni Pertuz's family was his life. He was approachable. He cared about his firefighter brothers.

No funeral arrangements have been announced for Pertuz yet.

"Gio was a wonderful husband and father to his wife and two children," said Mahwah Fire Department Chief Ken Warnet. "His family was his life."
Pertuz was the kind of person who "you could talk to about anything" and was always helping others, Warnet said.

"He will be greatly missed by the Fire Department and the township," Warnet said. "Gio was a great friend and true brother to all in the fire service."
